FROM PULLMAN — Saturday was a special day. It marked the final practice of Washington State's spring that began before 10:30 a.m. Not complaining. But still a positive note. Read on for more notes.


The Cougars practiced for the 11th time this spring on Saturday, holding another scrimmage at Martin Stadium. We have our story in today's newspaper, plus a blog post. CougCenter recapped practice here. … Are the Cougars in for a wild ride under Mike Leach?

Around the Pac-12 … Arizona's football team might be a work in progress at this point…. Arizona State coach Todd Graham is installing a different approach. … Stanford played its spring game, but there's still nothing settled at quarterback. There's a new breed of football at Stanford. … Fall is all that matters at USC. The Trojans' defense  is looking like a champion already. … UCLA hopes to stretch defenses with its running backs. A forgotten Bruins receiver gave a lift on Saturday. … Some suggestions for a leader at Oregon State. … Utah's quarterback is back to his old self. A big scrimmage for the Utes. … Colorado is going to have to rely on some freshmen. … Washington's defense seems stronger. Keith Price's backup has a big arm.
