So what does Julia Roberts see in “Friends” star Matthew Perry? “It’s pretty simple,” the actress told Entertainment Weekly. “He’s a smart, very funny, talented, handsome man and he’s on my favorite show. He asked me on a date. Why would I say no?”

Why indeed, especially since she’s not exactly in high demand right now.

“Nobody ever asks me on dates. Ever. Almost never. Almost absolutely never,” Roberts said. “It’s a brave man that asks me out. Mr. Perry is a brave, brave man.”

Not that Perry would necessarily agree.

“I assumed she wouldn’t even take the call,” he said. And when she did, he acted cool.

“You pretend to be poised and sure of yourself,” Perry said. “And then when you get off the phone, you run across your house and vomit.”

After dismissing most films being made today, Kazan expressed admiration for Martin Scorcese, Woody Allen and Stanley Kubrick. And, he said, “I like my own films,” which featured such stars as Marlon Brando, Kirk Douglas, Natalie Wood, Warren Beatty and Vivian Leigh.

Presidential candidate Steve Forbes abruptly canceled a scheduled 15-minute interview with comedian Al Franken. As Franken, author of “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations,” wrote in Newsweek magazine, Forbes pulled the plug after Franken asked him, “Mr. Forbes, you grew up in a house called Timberfield. I was thinking of giving my apartment a name. Do you have any suggestions?”
