Target practice results in WSU campus gunfire alert

PULLMAN — A campus-wide alert for gunfire was issued at Washington State University Sunday afternoon for shooting that turned out to be target practice.
WSU police officer Darren Jones told KOMO Radio in Seattle that the target shooters were in a residential area near campus. No one was hit, but a car window was shattered by a stray bullet a half mile away.
No one was arrested but charges are possible for reckless gunfire.
The Daily Evergreen reports the shooting took place outside of city limits, north of the Valley Road Playfields. The individuals were shooting in the direction of the play fields.

Please add Gun Safety 101 to the general education requirements.
force_vector: That is a very good idea, at least from kiddie garden to 5 grade. After that a proper gun usage course should be offered.
Some people are too stupid to own guns - let’s hope they weren’t there on a academic full ride…
They must have missed their target. I’d suggest they practice some more, but with their targets up against a hill and with some concerted attempt to actually hit them.
A lot of people like to just shoot stuff, or just shoot. That’s not “target practice”, although that’s usually how it’s reported in the news.Target practice requires actually getting the bullet “on the paper” — otherwise you don’t know how close you are. If you can’t even get the bullet on the paper, move closer. I have no problem with good ol’ boys just “shootin’ sh*t” either, so long as they clean up all the sh*t they’ve shot and they have a substantial hill behind it to catch the bullets. What these yahoos were doing was clearly reckless and in violation of several laws. I hope they can be charged with something, even if it’s impossible to prove that one of their bullets hit the car.
When I lived in the big city, I had a neighbor whose new .30-06 accidentally loaded and fired itself while he was showing it to his buddy. Beer was involved. There were houses close by on all sides, but proving that God has mercy on fools and drunks, the bullet went through the front door, missed all parked cars and passers-by, and into the dirt bank across the street. A .30-06 bullet can go through several houses in a row, so we were all lucky.
“kiddie garden”; What the heck is that?
Ognir!

force vector do you remember the case a few years ago where a off duty cop fired his gun off his back deck into a neighborhood? It doesn’t matter if they are trained some people just get stupid with a gun in their hands.
