In Loving Memory of NORTHRUP, James R. Major James R. Northrup (Ret.) passed away peacefully on January 30, 2013 at the age of 86, surrounded by family. He was born on January 19, 1927 in Colville, WA, the 2nd child of Rod and Mabel Northrup. Jim graduated from Colville High School in 1945. He served in the Army as an M.P and Medic and retired from the Army reserves as a Major. He attended Gonzaga and Eastern Washington College of Educaton. He married Marilyn McRayde November 22, 1950 in Yakima, WA, they had four children: Pamela, Candace, Kathi, and John Randall. He married Jayne L. (Skold) Evans on June 1, 1968 in Minneapolis, MN. His five stepchildren are: Dennis, Linda, Steve, Lisa, and Diane. He served as an EMT and an Adult Probation and Parole Officer in Spokane County and later for Stevens, Ferry and Pend Orielle Counties and retired in 1988 in Colville, WA. He was highly respected by law enforcement officers and proudly served alongside them for 36 years. Survived by his sister Ruth Ray, Colville; his brother Norman, Lacey, WA; his children Pam Evans, Spokane, WA, Candace Acevedo, Spokane, WA, Kathi Harvey, Everett, WA, and Randy Northrup, Graham, WA; his stepchildren Dennis Evans, Plains, Montana, Linda Evans, Colville, WA, Lisa Austin, Evans, WA, Diane Clark, Merritt, B.C.; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents Rod and Mabel, his oldest brother Rodney, his stepson Steve Evans, and his second wife Jayne Northrup. Jim was an involved member of the Colville Community Church, Good Sam’s Club, VFW, Rotary, NRA, and Knights of Pythias. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with family, camping, fishing, hunting and traveling. He was dearly loved and respected by many and will be greatly missed! Services for Jim Northrup will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Colville Community (United Methodist) Church at 930 S. Elm at 1 PM.
