One car racing with another hit a third vehicle at the corner of Washington and York, landing both wrecked vehicles in the front yard of a nearby home.
Police said the driver of a Mitsubishi 3000 GT was racing someone driving what witnesses described as a dark car from Division Street westbound on York. In the intersection at Washington, the Mitsubishi hit a Nissan Pathfinder, and both cars came to rest in the front yard of a nearby home.
The driver of the Nissan was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, who was not injured, has been arrested, police said.
So far, police only have the description of the other racing car as a “dark-colored car,” according to Sgt. Steve Braun of the Spokane Police Department.
Braun estimated the area would be closed off for at least two hours as police investigated the incident. Commuter traffic was routed through alternate neighborhood streets. The roads reopened in the evening.
