Coeur d’Alene police are looking for a man who tried to rape a woman near North Idaho College last weekend.
The 21-year-old victim told Coeur d’Alene police she was walking in the area of West Hubbard Avenue and North College Drive about 10:45 p.m. when she was attacked Jan. 11.
The victim, who lives in the area, said the man approached her from a construction area to the east, according to police spokeswoman Sgt. Christie Wood. He said something to her and followed her down the sidewalk. When she slowed to look at him, he grabbed her from behind, dragging her to the ground.
The victim said he tried to sexually assault her, but she fought him off, according to Wood. The man jumped up and ran away after seeing the headlights of a nearby vehicle.
A few minutes later, the victim, who had been trying to catch a bus to the Hogfish Bar when the attack occurred, boarded the bus and told the driver what happened. The bus driver took her to the bar where she called police.
The attacker has not been found. The victim described him as a white male, about 35 to 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches, with an average build. He was wearing a brown Carhartt-type jacket, a grey beanie hat and boots.
Anyone with information on the attack should call the Coeur d’Alene Police Department at (208) 769-2320.
