Obituary: Malmquist, Edwin Robert

MALMQUIST, Edwin Robert 8.9.1923 ~ 9.7.2013 Edwin (Eddie) Robert Malmquist, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away in Spokane on September 7, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Verna, sons Steve, Kyle (Cindy), Lee (Jennifer), brother Roger and sister Bobbie, step-children Vicki (Dwight) Carruthers, Shelley (LeVon) Davis, Ken (Dana) Watt, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Eddie was preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters Claris and Dorothy, brothers Morris and Calvin, and his first wife of 35 years, Hazel Gene. Eddie was born on August 9, 1923 to Carl and Muree Malmquist in Academy, South Dakota. The family moved to Pullman, Washington in 1938. Eddie graduated from Pullman High School in 1941. He entered into active duty with the army in 1943 and served in England and France. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to Pullman. Eddie and Hazel Gene Johnson were married March 9, 1946. The couple lived in Colfax briefly and Eddie worked for Brown Automotive. In 1948 they moved to Spokane where they raised their sons. Eddie was employed by Colliers, Motor Supply and NAPA Genuine Parts. He retired in 1982. After retiring, Eddie and Verna traveled around the United States in their motor home and most frequently spent winters in their park model in Yuma. He was a master woodworker. He loved spending time with family and friends. Services for Eddie will be held at Turning Point Open Bible Church, 11911 North Division St. on Friday, September 13, at 11:00AM. In honor of Eddie’s life, the family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society Discovery Shop or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Cornerstone Court and Hospice of Spokane for their loving care of Eddie.
